Q: What is New Brunswick Ciclovia?
A:  New Brunswick Ciclovia closes more than 3 miles of streets to city traffic so residents can walk, push baby strollers, skate, run, bike, use wheelchairs and walkers, rollerblade, dance, and utilize the roadways in countless creative and active ways.

Q: What are the hours?
A: The roads along the designated route will be vehicle-free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Municipal crews will begin setting up street closures at approximately 7 a.m., with full closure in effect by approximately 10:00 a.m. At 4:00 p.m. the roads begin re-opening to cars.

Q: Will there be tow-away zones?
A: Yes. There is NO on-street parking on the route during the event. The city will post temporary tow-away/no parking signs on the Friday, before the Ciclovia is to occur. Tow-away/no parking hours will be in effect from 7:00 a.m.  until after the event concludes.

Q: Will all streets that cross the route be closed to traffic?
A: No. Cars can cross the route at selected major streets as indicated on the map and at the direction of police. All other cross streets will be closed at the route. Other than the route itself, all adjacent streets remain open to local access for residents and businesses.

Q: Are there vendors along the route?
A: No. There are no authorized vendors along the New Brunswick Ciclovia route, however, businesses along the route will remain open.

Q: What activities are planned for the day?
A: Aside from opening up the road to non-motorized recreation, there are three activity stations along the route.  A schedule of events can be found here.

Q: Where are the start and finish lines?
A: There is no beginning or end to the New Brunswick Ciclovia route and it is not a race. Join in anywhere along the route – just show up, enjoy the vehicle-free streets and have fun! The route of the New Brunswick Ciclovia was designed for participants to enjoy the downtown area and many of the city’s attractions, landmarks, and parks.

Q: How do I sign up and how much does it cost?
A: There is no cost or pre-registration – just show up and have fun!

Q: Can my club or organization participate as a group?
A. Yes. Organizations are encouraged to plan group rides, walks, or runs.  Be sure to take pictures and post them to the New Brunswick Ciclovia Facebook page. Or your group can volunteer together by sending an email to [email protected].

Q: Is parking available?

A. Yes. New Brunswick municipal parking garages are open [for a fee, though many are free on Sundays] and there are parking lots available on the Rutgers College Avenue Campus. Refer to the map for locations.

Q: Are bathrooms available along the route?
A: Yes. Although there are no port-a-potties along the route, there are public restrooms in municipal parks. We also encourage you to patronize businesses along the route – many of which have bathrooms for customers.

Q: Can I volunteer at New Brunswick Ciclovia?
A: Yes.  Many volunteers are necessary to make the New Brunswick Ciclovia a safe and successful event.  Volunteers will serve as route marshalls, staff the water and information stations, and provide logistical support. Volunteer as a group or an individual by sending an email with your contact information to [email protected].  New Brunswick Ciclovia volunteer t-shirts will be provided.

Q: Will there be extra police or security?
A: Yes. There will be New Brunswick and Rutgers police officers as well as volunteers along the route for traffic and crowd control.

Q: What happens if it rains?
A: New Brunswick Ciclovia will take place in light rain or intermittent showers. If there is significant rain fall predicted requiring the cancellation of the event, it will be posted on the website by 6:00 a.m. the day of the event
